PROSPECTIVE ATHLETES
Thank you for your interest in the Carolina Junior Hurricanes, the Carolinas' premier travel hockey association.
There are four classifications of prospective Junior Canes, each with its own path to becoming a member of our team. Please find your classification below and learn about how to join us for the 2025-26 season.
8U (2017 or 2018 Birth Year)
Our Super 8 (8U) program is a non-tryout based, open registration, first-come first-serve program. Registration will open in mid-to-late June.
LOCAL ATHLETES
Families who currently reside in the area.
TIER 1 & TIER 2 OPEN TRYOUTS
For nearly all athletes, the path towards becoming a member of the Junior Canes begins at open tryouts for both Tier 1 and Tier 2.
- Tier 1 AAA open tryouts will be held mid-April with the exact dates to be announced.
- Tier 2 open tryouts will be held on the weekend of May 16th-18th.
Tryouts are open to all players of all skill levels and prior experience. Tier 1 AAA begins at 11U for boys and 13U/14U for girls. Registration links will be posted on the website in late February.
TIER 1 MAIN CAMP
Main camp is an invitation-only camp for a limited number of athletes. Tier 1 AAA rosters are finalized at the conclusion of camp. Invitations can be earned through performance at the Tier 1 open tryout.
RELOCATING ATHLETES
Families who currently reside outside of the area, but will be relocating to the area for the 2025-26 season.
TIER 1 & TIER 2 OPEN TRYOUTS
It is strongly recommended that all athletes make plans to attend open tryouts, even if your move date falls after the completion of tryouts.
- Tier 1 AAA open tryouts will be held mid-April with the exact dates to be announced.
- Tier 2 open tryouts will be held on the weekend of May 16th-18th.
Tryouts are open to all players of all skill levels and prior experience. Tier 1 AAA begins at 11U for boys and 13U/14U for girls. Registration links will be posted on the website in late February.
TIER 1 MAIN CAMP
Main camp is an invitation-only camp for a limited number of athletes. Tier 1 AAA rosters are finalized at the conclusion of camp. Invitations can be earned through performance at the Tier 1 open tryout, or players may receive direct invitations based on the evaluations of our coaching staff from the previous season.
RECRUITING-BASED OFFERS (Tier 1 only)
The Carolina Junior Hurricanes are a highly competitive program, and our coaches reserve the right to extend roster offers to recruited athletes while remaining compliant with USA Hockey timelines and methods of contact.
OUT OF STATE ATHLETES
Families who currently reside outside of North or South Carolina and do not plan to relocate for the 2025-26 season.
Tier 1 only. The Junior Canes do not offer Tier 2 programming for athletes who cannot commit to 2-3 weeknight practices throughout the season.
FILM-BASED EVALUATION
Players may submit links to game film and EliteProspects profiles for consideration. The link for submission will open in late-February, early-March.
