Tier 2
Program overview
Tier II is USA Hockey’s main offering for travel hockey, and is built to serve a diverse population of hockey athletes at different stages of their development - from elite to advanced. The Junior Canes offer a competitive tryout-based Tier II program for athletes from the Triangle area and surrounding regions who have the foundation, the dedication, and the desire to develop and compete at the highest levels.
Junior Canes Tier II teams either compete in the Atlantic Hockey Federation (AHF), Carolinas Hockey League (CHL), or in a series of independently scheduled games, all dependent upon the team's appropriate level of competition.
All 13U through 18U Tier II teams have the option to be National Bound in order to compete in the CAHA State Championship for the right to advance to the USA Hockey Tier II National Championships.
As the use of "AA" and "A" designations has become outdated and largely irrelevant, we designate our Tier II teams in the following manner:
- Tier II Black teams are selected first
- Tier II Red teams are selected second
- Tier II White teams are selected third
Our Black teams will typically play a AAA/AA schedule, our Red teams will play a AA/A schedule and our White teams will play an A schedule.
